Prevention of Trafficking in Persons

Human Trafficking is a serious violation of human rights, affecting millions of people worldwide including Uganda’s young people. The country’s young people are at risk of being exploited and trafficked for forced labor, sexual exploitation, child marriage etc. IVI is committed to combating human trafficking through a holistic approach that includes prevention, protection, prosecution and partnerships:

  • Prevention: Raises awareness about trafficking in persons (TIP) among vulnerable communities and stakeholders to prevent further exploitation.
  • Protection: Provides support and services to victims of TIP including counselling, medical care, legal assistance, and reintegration into their communities.
  • Protection: Collaborates with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute traffickers, and advocate for policy changes to strengthen anti-trafficking laws.
  • Partnerships: IVI partners with reputable and trustworthy organizations and stakeholders that have a proven track record in this field through;
  • Research: Map for and recognize organizations that are well established, transparent, and have a strong reputation in the anti-human trafficking field.
  • Reach out: Contacting identified organizations and express interest in partnering with them.
  • Ensuring alignment to make sure other organizations and stakeholders’ goals and values align with those of IVI including but not limited to sensitivity, respect and a commitment to ethical practices.
  • Collaboration: Discussing potential partnership opportunities such as fundraising events, awareness campaigns, or volunteer work while ensuring that IVI is clear about its vision, mission, goals, objectives and activities.
  • Supporting survivors: IVI considers partnering with organizations that provide direct support to TIP victims such as counselling, shelter, empowerment as explained above.
